We always welcome new members and would love to hear from you if you live in the Cheshire area. We have three groups to suit all playing levels. We have almost one hundred members across our three orchestras - chances are you already know a few! We are holding a 'Come and Play' day on March 19th for all young musicians in the Cheshire area. Who are we?

 The Cheshire Youth Orchestras comprise some of the most talented young musicians from all over Cheshire. The three orchestras provide a fun and friendly environment where young musicians can meet and play in a symphony orchestra setting on a regular basis to develop their musical skills.

We have two fantastic conductors, the best tutors and we are now established as the premier youth orchestra in the area.

Our CYTO Conductor, Catherine Singleton graduated from University with an honours degree in Music focusing on performance and composition with additional training in teaching strings and conducting. During her time since graduating, she has enjoyed a wide and varied career in music including performing in ‘pit’ orchestras for operatic performances, performing regularly in a quartet, teaching, composing and conducting.

Bethan Harper is from Holywell, North Wales. Growing up, she spent a lot of her time playing clarinet in various ensembles- such as the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales and the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain. She decided to pursue a career in music and went on to study Clarinet at The Royal Northern College of music. She graduated in 2011 with a BMus(Hons) degree, Licentiate of The Royal Schools of Music and a Post Graduate Certificate in instrumental teaching. Since graduating, she has played with various ensembles and chamber groups and is enjoying a career in teaching music.

Our CYO String Tutor, Sylvia More studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she gained many awards, including the Violin Prize.  On graduating, she began her orchestral career as a member of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, before moving to the Scottish National Orchestra.

CYO Brass Tutor Alex Harper comes from Worsley, Manchester and began playing the trumpet at the age of 8.  After playing with the local youth orchestras and brass bands he soon realised that playing the trumpet was something that he wanted to pursue as a career.  In 2000 he began studying the trumpet with Gareth Small (Halle) and was appointed principal trumpet with the Halle Youth Orchestra.

CYO Conductor, Mairearad Bushnell-Wye first studied music at Napier College in Edinburgh before going on to study at the Royal College of Music. She graduated in 1982 with an honours degree and an A.R.C.M. in clarinet teaching and continued at the College for a further year of advanced performing study. For several years she taught and played professionally in and around London before moving to Cheshire with her husband.
